Shuttler Saina wins big-ticket Indonesian Open
The longest day of the year turned out to be the biggest in Saina Nehwal’s fledgling badminton career. She became the first Indian shuttler to win a super series event.
Saina, 19, ranked eighth in the world, upset third seed Wang Lin of China 12-21, 2118, 21-9 to lift the Indonesian Open badminton title on Sunday.
The last big title won by an Indian was in 2001 when her mentor P. Gopichand clinched the All England title.
