Lalu, Paswan deal Congress a bad hand

After the BJP it’s the turn , of the Congress to be bullied around by its allies – first in Uttar Pradesh, then Maharashtra and now, on Tuesday Bihar. Its most trusted allies Lalu Prasad and Ram Vilas Paswan have cut a deal behind its back, giving it practically nothing.

Last week, the Biju Janata Dal had snapped ties with the BJP in Orissa and also pulled out of the NDA.

Bihar has 40 Lok Sabha seats. Prasad’s RJD will contest 25 of them and Paswan’s LJP 12, according to their announcement. They left the remaining three for the Congress, without so much as consulting it, laying bare cracks in the ruling UPA.

King Khan in crosshairs now

He game of one-up man ship between the feuding Thackeray cousins - Raj and Uddhav has put Bollywood actors in their crosshairs.

With Raj taking on Jaya Bachchan for what he termed an insult to Maharashtrians, his uncle Bal Thackeray, Uddhav's father - threatened with losing the 'Marathi manoos' agenda picked on Shah Rukh Khan for calling himself a "Dilliwala" through the party mouthpiece.

Jaya asking Maharashtrians to forgive her for speaking in Hindi at a music release gave Raj, head of the Maharashtra Naynirman Sena (MNS), the perfect excuse to again rake up the 'Maharashtra for Maharashtrians' issue.

And he forced the Shiv Sena to extend its attack to another star "Mumbai made Khan a baadshah (king), but he still calls himself a Dilliwala. If that is the case, why did you come to Mumbai?"

Navi Mumbai, the new terror hub

How a wifi link was stolen investigations into Saturday's Ahmedabad serial bombings have thrown up the first clues: the terror operations were likely planned in Navi Mumbai and other parts of Maharashtra.

It is now emerging that someone logged in to American manager Kenneth Haywood's Wi-Fi connection - installed in his apartment in Navi Mumbai - to send the e-mail warning of a terror strike, minutes before the first bombs went off, intelligence officials told the Hindustan Times on condition of anonymity .

Three of the four car-bombs in Gujarat were stolen from Navi Mumbai and the fourth was traced to an area near Nashik, said officials of Maharashtra's Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) in Mumbai. The findings came on a day when the death toll crossed 50, a bomb was defused in Surat, and tense Indian cities were flooded with bomb hoaxes.
