Making Rs 1 crore in 10 months

Earning a fat salary was not enough for 27-year-old Citibank assistant manager Ramneek Singh.

The MBA degree holder and software engineer by profession chose another way of making quick bucks. He got together with industrialist Kanwaljit Singh Saluja (48) and his son Jasmeet Singh (24) and duped bank customers.

Using confidential information of ‘high valued’ bank customers provided by Ramneek, the father-son duo ordered gold credit cards from the bank. They gave addresses of offices, which they hired for a month, across Punjab and took delivery of the cards on these addresses.

Information Technology firms slow campus hires

From Matrimonials to swank offices, software engineers have been much sought after since the information technology boom brought thousands of lucrative jobs into India. Times are changing, though.

As the US economy goes from bad to worse, India's biggest outsourcing customer is getting stingy about placing new orders.

The result: IT firms are hiring less and offering less as they pick talent from campuses. In some cases, they are even refusing to go through with offers they've already made.

This is the first time since the outsourcing boom began a decade ago that IT companies are dragging their feet on campus hiring, placement officers at colleges across India told Hindustan Times.

Software engineer found murdered in car in E. Delhi

28-year-old Akash was to marry on Feb. 10

BARELY A week before his marriage, a 28-year-old software engineer was found murdered in his car on National Highway-24 in East Delhi on Sunday Police said Akash Saxena had left office for home in Gole Market on Saturday around 9 p.m. His body was found in his Maruti car on NH-24 on Sunday Police said he bore injuries to his head and mouth. They ruled out robbery as the motive as all his valuables, including a gold chain and his mobile phone, were on him. Akash was working for Abacus Software Private Lim- ited in Patparganj Industrial Area for the past two years. He was to marry on February 10. Police said a resident of Vinod Nagar saw the car parked on the roadside late on Saturday night from his house. When the man woke up on Sunday, he saw the car stm parked on the road.
